With Genc Pollo The officers and captains of the Limion Naval Base near Saranda refuse to sign the transfer of assets to a group of oligarchs, thus opposing the abusive and corrupt acts of the government. Their resistance is significant for the sovereignty of the Republic and the fulfillment of its international obligations. This note is dedicated to them. 1-Sovereignty at sea since c. 18 "Your sea is as far as the guns of your cannons" (in Latin: terrae potestas finitur ubi finitur armorum vis) was the principle formulated by the theorist of international law, the Dutchman Cornelius Bynkershoek in his treatise "De dominio maris" of the year 1702 on the territorial sea under the sovereignty of the coastal state.
This rule was a simple way of defining Cambodia WhatsApp Number Data sovereignty. What is officially the state's but also controlled by the force of its weapon (the sword on the ground, the gun in the sea and in modern times the fighter jets in the sky) can be said to be really under state sovereignty. 2-Sovereignty in the Albanian sea (and sky). In our Republic in the 90s, the exercise of sovereignty in the sea and sky was problematic. The obsolete Mig 19 and Mig 21 aircraft were almost out of service and the warships that remained from v. 60 also barely went to sea and took a toll during the riots in 1997. Control of the skies was resolved with NATO membership: just as the Alliance routinely operates with smaller members who have no budget or reason to buy fighter jets, the region over Albania is regularly patrolled by fighter jets of neighboring NATO countries according to a calendar approved by the Alliance.
For the territorial sea, the state's responsibility has a deeper human dimension, since for every ship in distress, shipwreck and similar situations it must be able to send ships capable of search and rescue operations. This mission cannot be fulfilled by police motorboats that operate only along the coast. Therefore, the Government in v. 2008 bought, with a subsidy from the Dutch state, four new ships of the Iliria class, with which the Coast Guard was equipped. With these ships in the following years, Albania also participated in joint naval operations with NATO and the EU in the Mediterranean, contributing to collective security.
